Deep in the Swiss Alps, in one of the world’s premiere off-piste resorts, LHL have created a dream aprés-ski family apartment. Engaged at the outset of the project after our client bought the apartment off-plan, and working with local architect Cittolin Polli, we specified furniture, finishes, kitchen and bathroom fittings, and transformed the way the property is organised and lived in.

The heart of the house, the informal living and dining area, has been maximised and made more welcoming for the whole family. Our palette of materials was carefully developed to bring together new and old textures and colours. Antique reclaimed timber adorns the walls, floors and ceilings throughout, creating the sense of a cocoon-like mountain retreat.

A mountain stone fireplace takes centre stage in the living area, flanked by built-in surround seating, sofas and a rustic wooden and white leather sofa, all strewn with fur and textured cushions. A one-off set of three chunky chrome tables spells out the word SKI, and a white lacquer coffee table stands astride a white cow hide in the centre of the room.

Alongside the main living areas the family bedrooms are apart from the guest suite for privacy. Beds and bunks are custom-built in antique pine, and furnishings mix modern and traditional with Swiss-inspired fabrics and wools in cream, grey, red and brown. Every bedroom is ensuite with bathrooms lined in beautiful black textured slate and furnished with ice-white, pebble-like Villeroy & Boch sanitaryware providing a stunning contrast.

Our tabletop design for the apartment offers two place settings, both inspired by the location and mood. Crystal glassware, etched with snowflakes, is set alongside miniature hide placemats, horn napkin rings and crockery in a deep rustic red, with a snowier glass and white-rimmed design as an alternative.
