Nestled in leafy Lowndes Square, just yards from the chic hubbub of Sloane Street and Knightsbridge, is the jewel-like Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, a calming, luxurious 88-room retreat whose more intimate, contemporary, boutique side we wanted to bring out.

We developed a pair of complementary colour schemes for the guest rooms and suites – one of cool neutral greys and browns, the other of warmer hues of raspberry, red and orange – which mixed and merged in the corridors and communal areas.

New, dark-wood casegoods with chrome accents were designed and selected by LHL, but all of the existing wardrobes, guestroom doors, mini-bars and headboards were kept in the new scheme. Mirrors above the headboards were replaced by stunning large-scale reproductions of period artworks. Art was central to the project: we worked closely with Muzeo in Paris to source playful, memorable images of the kind of fashionable society that might have frequented London’s more well-to-do streets in the 18th century.

Chalk-white walls and ceilings were complemented by contemporary light fittings in chrome and white enamel. Bathrooms were refreshed with glass-and-chrome shelving.

Most of our work here was on the surface. But a light touch can go a long way.
